Freya is the daughter of the sea god Njord and sister of Freyr in Norse mythology. She is an important fertility goddess and a member of the Vanir, one of the two branches from which the Gods depart. After a war between them, the Vanir are forced to give way to the Aesir, a group of younger goddesses led by Odin. His greatest treasure is the Brisings necklace. She was with the four dwarves who made the necklace to get it, she. She has many admirers for her beauty, and one of them is Ottar, whom she turns into a pig. It is also said that she is a magician who can fly in the guise of a falcon. She has a lot in common with Frigg, she. It is also highly probable that the two goddesses originated from the same earth goddess. Both Odin and Freya are about the heroic dead. At the end of each battle, they share the dead. Odin takes half of the dead to Valhalla, while Freya takes the other half to the meadows of Fólkvangr, which he manages.

In Old Norse, Freya means lady, female ruler or master. She is the goddess of love, sex, war, beauty and charm, although there is no evidence that she was called to bring fertility.

According to Snorri's Edda, Freya had a husband named Odr. She often took long trips and Freya shed red gold tears because of it.
